2024년 첫 '1등급 1200m 단거리' 최강자리 차지할 경주마는

오는 21일 한국마사회 렛츠런파크 서울의 마지막 제11경주로 1등급 경주마들의 새해 첫 1200m 단거리 대결이 펼쳐진다. 레이팅 100이하의 1등급 경주마들이 성별과 연령, 산지의 구분없이 모두 출전해 속도를 겨룰 예정이다. 이번 경주 경마팬들의 시선이 집중되는 출전마 4두를 살펴본다.

◆연희일출(암, 한국 7세, 레이팅 88, 최병권 마주, 이준철 조교사, 승률 25.9%, 복승률 37%)

연희일출.

나이가 들수록 꾸준히 성장하는 모습을 보여 온 ‘연희일출’은 지난해 세 번의 대상경주에 출전해 2위와 3위를 한 번씩 차지하며 단거리 암말 강자로 입지를 넓혀왔다. 특히 직전 경주였던 지난 11월 일반경주에서 1등급 승급 후 첫 승리를 차지했다. 좋은 궁합을 보여온 조상범 기수가 최근 직접 조교에 나서는 만큼 이번 경주에서도 좋은 흐름을 이어갈 것으로 예측된다.

◆장산클리어(거, 미국 6세, 레이팅 91, 김병진 마주, 강환민 조교사, 승률 46.2%, 복승률 76.9%)

장산클리어.

초대 명예경주마에 선정된 ‘청담도끼’ 마주로 유명한 김병진 마주는 ‘장산클리어’를 비롯해 ‘장산파워’, ‘장산몬스터’, ‘장산레이저’ 등 장산시리즈 경주마들을 소유하고 있다. ‘장산클리어’는 총 13회 출전해 여섯 번의 우승과 네 번의 2위를 차지했으며 총 11번의 경주에서 3위안에 입상하는 기염을 토하고 있다. 높은 승률은 물론 최근 1200m 기록도 출전마 중 가장 빠르다. 일반경주 중심으로 출전해 아직 대상경주 우승 이력은 없지만 1등급 승급 후에도 기복 없는 안정적인 주행능력을 선보이고 있다.

◆라온자이언트(암, 한국 4세, 레이팅 81, 라온랜드(주) 마주, 박종곤 조교사, 승률 50%, 복승률 58.3%)

씨수말 ‘머스킷맨’의 혈통을 이어받은 ‘라온家’의 정통 명마 ‘라온자이언트’가 새해 첫 1등급 단거리 우승을 노린다. 데뷔 당해 ‘과천시장’(L)배 우승을 차지하며 일찌감치 남다른 떡잎을 보였다. 1200m경주 전적은 6전 4승으로 이번 경주 출전마 중 가장 높은 승률이다. 지난해 경주거리를 늘려 도전한 세 번의 대상경주에서는 아쉬운 모습을 보였으나 지난 9월 단거리 경주에서 우승을 차지하는 등 스프린터로서 강점을 이어가고 있다.

◆와우와우(수, 한국 5세, 레이팅 83, ㈜나스카 마주, 송문길 조교사, 승률 26.3%, 복승률 57.9%)

와우와우.

지난해 첫 대상경주였던 ‘세계일보배’(L)에서 ‘라온퍼스트’, ‘이스트제트’, ‘라온더스퍼트’ 등 쟁쟁한 강자들을 꺾고 깜짝 우승을 차지해 존재감을 드러냈다. 단거리 최강마 ‘어마어마’를 소유한 ㈜나스카 마주의 말로 송문길 조교사의 관리를 받고 있다. 직전 경주는 지난 8월이었다. 이후 컨디션 회복을 위해 5개월간의 휴식기를 가졌다. 새해부터 다시 새벽조교에 돌입하며 기량을 다듬고 있는 ‘와우와우’가 이름처럼 놀라운 재기를 선보일지 유심히 지켜볼 필요가 있다.

◆Jangsan Clear (Geo, USA 6 years old, rating 91, owner Byeong-jin Kim, trainer Hwan-min Kang, win rate 46.2%, repeat win rate 76.9%)
Kim Byeong-jin, famous for ‘Cheongdam Ax’, which was selected as the first honorary racehorse, owns Jangsan Series racehorses including ‘Jangsan Clear,’ ‘Jangsan Power,’ ‘Jangsan Monster,’ and ‘Jangsan Laser.’ ‘Jangsan Clear’ has competed a total of 13 times, won six times and placed second four times, and is showing off his spirit by placing in the top three in a total of 11 races. Not only does it have a high winning rate, but its recent 1200m record is also the fastest among the participating horses. Although he competes mainly in general races and has no record of winning the grand prize race yet, he is showing stable driving ability without any ups and downs even after being promoted to Grade 1.

‘Laon Giant’, the famous horse of ‘Laon Family’ who inherited the lineage of sire ‘Musketman’, is aiming for his first Grade 1 sprint win of the new year. In his debut year, he won the ‘Gwacheon Mayor’ (L) pear, showing his outstanding performance early on. His record in the 1200m race is 4 wins out of 6, which is the highest winning percentage among horses participating in this race. Although he showed disappointing results in the three grand prize races he attempted by increasing the racing distance last year, he is continuing his strengths as a sprinter by winning the short-distance race last September.

◆Wow Wow (Wednesday, Korea 5 years old, rating 83, Nascar Maju Co., Ltd., trainer Song Moon-gil, win rate 26.3%, repeat win rate 57.9%)
Last year, in the ‘Segye Ilbo Cup’ (L), which was the first grand prize race, it showed its presence by winning a surprise victory by defeating prominent players such as ‘Raon First’, ‘East Jet’, and ‘Laon The Purt’. According to Nascar Maju, which owns the strongest short-distance horse, ‘Eomaeoma’, he is managed by trainer Song Moon-gil. The previous race was last August. Afterwards, he took a 5-month break to recover his condition. It is necessary to watch closely whether ‘Wow Wow’, who is refining his skills by starting early morning training again from the new year, will show an amazing comeback as his name suggests.
